The only limits to the possibilities in your life tomorrow are the buts you use today. – Les Brown
There are many reasons why we don’t get what we want.
I’m sure you could put a long list together of all the barriers, obstacles and circumstances that are preventing you from living a more fulfilling life.
You’re stuck in a dead end job, you’re too busy, the economy sucks, the government is taking all your money, etc.
There are times when it seems like all we have are conflicting circumstances. It’s all we notice.
Our present reality that we are facing right now can blind us to the possibility that things can be different.
I’m poor, that’s my reality, why would things be different?
I’m lonely, that’s my reality, why would things be different?
Resignation has appeared. The possibilities have disappeared.
I have noticed from the clients I work with, and from being coached myself, that it’s easy to focus on problems instead of possibilities.
When I first started getting coached I could spend entire sessions focusing on all the reasons I was stuck and the barriers I couldn’t push through.
By the way, I do think it’s important to figure out why we’re stuck and what doesn’t work well. This insight is very useful.
It’s just not the solution to truly transform our life.
It’s not going to help us feel more powerful and passionate.
It may not even help us feel less disheartened.
What is the solution then?
The hard truth is that our circumstances may not change immediately. We won’t always solve and eliminate our problems.
There will always be difficult situations and unmanageable circumstances — that’s life.
“I dwell in possibility…” ― Emily Dickinson
Our job is to make the choice to look at the possibilities. To focus on the potential we possess without having to fix a damn thing.
Sibyl Chavis at her site the Possibility of Today rallies her tribe to help them be “possibilitarians,” or in other words people are look for the possibility in each and every experience.
I really like that idea and want to encourage you to also dwell in possibility!
You may have a lot of problems right now and it’s understandable that you’re tired of dealing with them.
However, what if even despite the challenges and obstacles you’re facing, you could still create a more fulfilling life?
This is going to sound simple, but all you have to do is decide to focus on what is POSSIBLE.
Take your mind off the problems for a moment, and focus on the positive possibilities. Consider how very much you are able to do. – Ralph Marston
Even with all of the “problems” you have, what is possible for your life?
Put the problems aside for just one minute, and really really consider, “What new possibilities will help me live a fulfilling life?”
“What do I really, really, really want?”
What would empower me today? What would make the day fun?
When we realize what is possible for our life we feel more alive. We wake up and represent what it takes to achieve what we desire.
It is Your turn NOW: What is possible for your life? What would make your life more fulfilling?
“Become a possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are, raise your sights and see possibilities — always see them, for they’re always there.” – Dr. Norman Vincent Peale
